Oyo State Residents Protest Against Increase In Fuel Price And Electricity Tariff
The Joint Action Front (JAF), Oyo State section, yesterday, protested against the ongoing climb in the cost of petroleum, power levy, Value Added Tax (VAT) and different arrangements of the current Federal Government.
The JAF, a coalition of pro-Labour, radical and socialist-oriented civil service organisations under Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), at a question and answer session held at the NLC office In Ibadan, encouraged all Nigerians to oppose the hiked prices until they are reduced or back to how it was by going out and engaging in peaceful protests as this is the only way the Nigerian government would give them a listening ear.
The Co-ordinator of JAF, Ademola Aremu, asked the Federal Government to have an absolute inversion of the climb in the cost of petroleum, power levy and VAT to the 2016 N87 per liter.
Likewise, Chairman, NLC, Oyo State section, Olukayode Martins, who noticed that COVID-19 emergency confronting the nation influenced low pay and working class residents, and asked each shareholder to remain against the expansion in the cost of petroleum and electricity tariff.
