The world of sports in the early hours of Sunday, was dazzled with clinical brilliance of Israel (The Style bender) Adesanya when the Nigerian born New Zealander , smashed his challenger from Brazil, Paulo Costa.
Both middleweight boxers had been engaged in verbal war right at the time Israel Adesanya realized Paulo Costa would challenge him for the championship belt in 2019. Costa had sworn to erase Israel’s record in the middleweight championship. Israel however remained daunted to the Brazilia’s verbal as the Nigerian born believed in his better tactics.
In the face off to the match, Costa had handed Adesanya a white string likes a pair of shoes laces, but Adesanya used same to smash back at Costa, an action which heightened tempo of the hatred and fury between the two.
The verbal war between the two gems had made fans of boxing over the world believe that Costa would be Adesanya’s toughest challenger.
So, Sunday morning was a moment of excitement as the two undefeated meddle weight giants squared it up in the ring, in Abu Dhabi.
Adesanya stylishly worked his way through the challenger, sizing him up before smashing on the finishing touches in Round 2. After spending a full round beating up Costa’s lead leg, Adesanya finished the challenger with punches in the second round of the main event.
Adesanya’s strategy was apparent early as he kept distance and unloaded with kicks to Costa’s lead leg, alternating between kicks to the outside and stomp kicks to the knee. As Adesanya landed, Costa would respond with taunts before trying to cut off the cage. But Adesanya’s footwork was on-point, allowing him to slide away from any danger before resuming his leg attacks. Costa on the other hand had come with his own strategy, not really engaging Israel in such a furious rush, but waiting to capitalize on the Style Bender’s mistake which proved abortive because Adesanya with his quick footwork is such tricky opponent to catch so easily.
As Costa finally got his wish and began to exchange in close quarters, Adesanya landed a glancing blow off Costa’s temple, sending him tumbling and humbling to the ground. Adesanya wasted no time following Costa to the ground, unleashing a brutal flurry of strikes and forcing the referee to call a halt to the action half way in Round 2.
We heartily celebrate with Adesanya, especially as he hasn’t forgotten that he was born and bred in the city of Lagos. The Nigerian fighting blood truly runs in your veins.
With the victory, Adesanya improved to 20-0 and dispatched a man many felt was his toughest challenger in the division. With options for fresh challenges dwindling after just two title defenses, Adesanya said he had already notified the man who could be next up of the opportunity ahead. Adesanya is truly The LAST STYLE BENDER.
