After almost two decades with the Spanish giants, Lionel Messi has officially told Barcelona he wishes to leave the club.
On Tuesday, the club reported that the Argentinean had submitted a letter stating his intention to depart.
The news comes 11 days after the crushing 8-2 loss of Barcelona to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, one of the worst losses in the players career and in the history of the clubs.
The loss ended Barcelona’s miserable season – the first without a title since 2007-08 – and sparked one of the worst crises ever.
During his tenure at Barcelona as the world’s best player, Messi has won a record six Ballon d’Or trophies, helping the club win 10 Spanish league titles and four Champions League crowns.
