On Thursday, Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai, shared some light on the moves he is taking to appoint a new emir of Zazzau to replace Shehu Idris, who died on Sunday after a brief illness.
According to him, Mallam Nasir El-rufai, the state governor, who has the final say and will finally declare the new emir. Said “He is reading a book on the emirates to support him in making a decision.
In the race, four princes are said to be at the forefront.
They are Yariman Zazzau, Muni Ja’afaru, Iyan Zazzau, Bashir Aminu, Magajin Garin Zazzau, Ahmed Bamalli, Aminu Idris, and Turakin Zazzau.
Mr. Elrufai posted an image of a seminal work on the old Hausa kingdom of Zazzau on the verified Facebook page which he said he was consulting while awaiting the submission of the kingmakers of Zazzau.
The book which is title ‘Government in Zazzau, is a sociological exploration of the old emirate’ and was written by Prof M G Smith, a former colonial officer.
“KADUNA UPDATE: While awaiting the recommendations of the Zazzau Emirate kingmakers, I am re-reading Prof MG Smith’s authoritative epic on the selection of Zazzau Emirs from 1800 to 1950 to guide me in taking a decision. “Government in Zazzau” was published in 1960.
Attention is now on Zazzau kingmakers who are still shoping for new emir after which it will be submitted to the governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai who has the sole right to announce a new emir.
