Today, the 4th of October, Ahmadu Bello University situated in the northern region of Nigeria, precisely Zaria, Kaduna clocks 58.
The university was founded on October 4, 1962 and was known as the university of northern Nigeria. The university’s name was then changed to Ahmadu Bello University after the sardauna of sokoto, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello— 1st premier of Northern Nigeria.
At the start of the university, it only comprised of 4 faculties with 15 departments and 426 students but, over the years, it has grown to be one of the best universities in sub-saharan Africa with over 45,000 students and 17 faculties comprising of 106 departments. It also has 16 functioning research centers, 202 doctorate degree programmes, a mini refinery, a standard university dam, a standard A.B.U community bank, it is also the national co-ordinator of IJMB in Nigeria and so many others.
The institution is also well known for producing most of the notable political leaders in Nigeria like the late Musa ya’radua, Dino Melaye, Atiku Abubakar, Adamu Adamu, Yusuf Barnabas Bala e.t.c.
As their motto goes “discipline and learning”, it has proved itself over the years to be one of best public institutions Africa.
