Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi has confirmed that the Chinese government would construct the 50 million USD transport university Daura, set to take off next September.
Also, during his maiden inspection tour of the ongoing project, the Minister who announced this at the weekend in Daura, Katsina State, told that Technics Engineering Architectural Marketing, Squad, the project consultants, had agreed to provide their assistance at no cost.
The Transportation Minister further clarified that the brain behind the $50 million university is to learn the technologies needed to run the railway system that the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) is currently constructing when the Chinese withdraw. While Amaechi did not incorporate it into the initial design, he instructed contractor students to include primary and secondary school in the master design to address the educational needs of families’ children.
Amaechi, who had paid an earlier call to the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farooq, shortly after the project site had been inspected. He said the university was not part of the railway contract, but was given free of charge to the FG by the Chinese government.
“I would also like to thank the CCECC for approving the free building of the university. We met with the CECC and advised them to train the Nigerians who are taking over their innovations and decided. They were not part of the railway deal. Both Nigerians from across the world have the right to study here, as well as lecture. Those who teach would not only come from Daura, but from every corner of the country.
The Minister later issued a courtesy call to Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari who pledged to do his absolute best to guarantee host community’s cooperation.
It should be noted that on 2 December 2019, President Muhammadu orchestrated the groundbreaking ceremony of the initiative.
The chairman of the commission, Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, Ibrahim Alhassan and other senior government officials participated on the inspection tour.
