20 Hillux of Armed policemen Disrupt Protest By Southern Kaduna Youths
Police have disrupted a rally by some youths under the auspices of Concerned Southern Kaduna who were calling for an end to killings in the region.
The demonstrators were to assemble at NNPC Junction in Kaduna on Saturday Morning about 8 am when the heavily armed policemen arrived the scene and asked them to disperse.
The Kaduna State Police Public Affairs Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said they have not been informed of the protest by the conveners.
“We were not aware of any demonstrations. “Yesterday (Saturday) we just kept a demonstration of action, and we disbanded the illegal crowd.
“The area is now quiet, and no problem,” he said. It was also noted that, despite the fact that three demonstrators were originally detained but later released on the spot, there were no fight on both sides.
Many of the youngsters, both male and female, wore black T-shirts as a mourning gesture.
Limis Alpha, one of the protest conveners, told the media team that the demonstration was peaceful, and it was designed to demonstrate the pains of the people of Southern Kaduna.
“We were not given the chance to complain because over 15 -20 hillux of heavily armed policemen arrived before we converged in the vicinity.
“We just want stability in our land; we deserve that. “We thank God the demonstration has gone well. “Police knew us and we recognized them too,” he said.
He said the protest idea was literally to keep placards without providing any sort of expression, since they claimed that silence was a message as well.
Southern Kaduna has faced attacks on the town by armed gunmen that have resulted in the killing of several innocent villagers in the town.
